Sigma - Zoom Normal-Telephoto 50-500mm f/4-6.3 EX DG HSM Autofocus Lens for Nikon AF-D

I'm renting this lens for the next 2 weeks because we're going on vacation to Montana and hope to have the opportunity to photograph some wildlife.   This is the first lens I've used in the 500mm focal range.  I'm using a monopod to support the weight because it's at least 5 pounds.   I'm still playing around to see what shutter speeds I need to shoot with to get a sharp image.  Of course, anything faster than 1/750 is going to work fine, but I'm not sure what I can slow it down to with the monopod.

I took it to a wetland area yesterday in hopes of capturing images of birds.  There were very few birds but many dragonflys so I'll be posting some of them soon.
