Canon PowerShot G3

Feb 19, 2008 12:39 AM EDT

The Canon Power Shot G3 is a very nice top end digital point and shoot camera. It's a great backup camera that is easy to carry around and it fits in most larger jacket pockets. It is a tad slow when using the auto focus but with a little practice you get use to that. It has all of the setting that you get with a DSLR and you can even buy a lens adapter and get different lenses for it. Findi...

Canon 430EX Speedlite E-TTL II Shoe-Mount Flash

Feb 01, 2008 09:26 PM EDT

This is a pretty good flash. For relatively close in shots, this flash is excellent. It is far superior to the built-in flash, and gives the operator a great deal of versatility in shooting. At this time, I am thinking I want a stronger flash for certain settings so I might upgrade to the 580II, but for someone just starting out, this flash will more than do the trick. My only reservation about...

Canon Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Autofocus Lens Review

Feb 01, 2008 09:20 PM EDT

Outstanding walk-around lens. Works well in almost all environments. This is the kit lens on the 5D, but I use it on a 20D. Despite the required adjustment for the 1.6x lens factor, the lens still is a dream to use. It has a really balanced range between wide angle and telephoto. It produces sharp images, it's quiet, easy to use, and light enough to carry around all day. I give it my highest...

Canon Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF 28-105mm f/4-5.6 USM Autofocus Lens

Feb 01, 2008 05:34 PM EDT

I used this lens for a while before I upgraded to a Canon L lens. This little guy is a step up from the 18-55mm kit lens that I got with my 20D. They no longer offer that as a kit lens because it was pretty lame. This lens, by contrast, is a real step up. It is solid, quiet and takes good images. If you are looking for an inexpensive general use lens, this lens might be the one for you

Canon Zoom Telephoto EF 70-200mm f/4.0L USM Autofocus Lens

Feb 01, 2008 05:11 PM EDT

I would recommend this lens to anyone who is looking for an all purpose telephoto lens. I generally use this lens for wildlife and some landscape photography. I have occasionally used this lens for newspaper submissions of local events. It is a real trooper and I have put it through its paces. I give it a "good" rating because Canon's f/2.8 IS lens variant is clearly superior. But...

Canon Zoom Wide Angle-Telephoto EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Autofocus Lens

Jan 09, 2008 01:23 PM EDT

Review by Pinetree3 I used this lens for a couple of months. When I purchased the lens, I was looking for a state of the art mid-range lens. The lens has an excellent optical and build quality. The photographic quality of the images I took with the lens were simply stunning. It met, even exceeded my expectations. So, why don't I own the lens anymore? It has more to do with me and my style of...

Canon EOS 20D Camera Review

Jan 08, 2008 04:37 PM EDT

Review by Solaria This camera has been discontinued for a while, and due to the life span of digital cameras, I wouldn't recommend buying one used (unless it was completely overhauled) but this has been a good little camera for me. Never locked up, never shut down, never failed to focus, meter or release the shutter when I asked it to. I've had it for some time now and couldn't imagi...

Nikon D200 Camera Review

Jan 07, 2008 02:18 PM EDT

Review by Sgbrown This is a superb camera. The large number of buttons can be daunting at first, but you soon realize that buttons are a lot easier to find and press than having to dig down through a complex set of menus! All the most needed settings are available directly without menus - including ISO speed, white balance, bracketing options, exposure compensation, single or continuous exposure...

Telephoto AF Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR (Vibration Reduction) Autofocus Lens

Jan 07, 2008 02:12 PM EDT

This lens produces very crisp images, and the VR option works well. It's quite a bulky lens, and sometimes it has trouble "deciding" what to focus on in auto-focus mode, but those are small drawbacks in comparison to the distortion-free images and excellent resolution

Canon EOS Digital Rebel 300D

Jan 06, 2008 11:27 PM EDT

Review by Jas I have been using the Canon Rebel 300D, since 2005. I bought it as a second digital camera, moving up from a small compact digital which I used previously. I only have the 'kit' lenses at the moment, which are an EFS 18-55mm and an EF 75-300mm. Since I am still very much an amateur, I think these are quite adequate for a beginner. I would like to acquire a macro lens, as on...
