Hi Mike. Good advice from Alan, all of which I endorse. The only thing I'd add is to take control of the exposure and override the metered value by 2 or even more stops. Of course the lamps will over-expose, but if they're not obscuring the stag as per Alan's advice it won't matter. Then you'll have more to play with in terms of the exposure of the stag itself, and you'll be able to bring out more detail. Unless you're reasonably close, Alan's fill-in flash idea might not work too well, so this would be another approach.

This is a interesting photo to view. With you on the critique my photos list from the message board, this is my two cents. First we can see how you cropped it ROFL :) Hey Mike I feel it would be better if with your next visit there would be to move to the right some so the front lamp is not cutting into the monument. As for this photo the subject is dead center in the shot. I feel cropping the right side off removing the lamp, and un-cropping the left would help to get the monument out of the center and give the subject room to look into. On your next time by there you might try using your flash to lighten up the monument some. Oh and lastly, it must be nice to have so many cool things where you live to take photos of.... I have two choices, dirt or cactus LOL...
