About This Image

This female Mourning Dove (at least I believe it is a Mourning Dove)and her mate have chosen to nest on a plant on my patio. I have permitted their nesting, conditional on an occassional portrait.

I am almost certain this is a she. The nest is pretty sparse for a reason; this morning I startled the one covering the nest by pulling back my shades. It flew away to reveal a single egg. (Got more photos). They must have been in quite a hurry (two days) to get that nest built and ready.

this is one of the most lovely "bird shots" that have ever seen, Alex! We'd let them nest at our place anyday, in order to capture a shot like that even just once! Talk about the beauty of Nature! Am surprised at the sparse type of nest she appears to be sitting on, or is it the "he".
