you are right about that eye, Mary! thankyou for the comments. He was watching every move we made. The man who was also taking photos of this heron, said that those are the breeding colours.

glad you like it, Janice, thanks for nice comment : ) We were driving along and saw this man taking photos, then DH spotted the heron quite near the road, so we turned around and I started taking pics too. Then that man told us where the Snowy Owls are, so we went right there afterwards, so it was a great day for "shooting" with the camera
