Nice catch. My guess is its either a red-tailed or Harlan's Hawk. I'm also going out on a limb and saying both hawks are the same bird. http://www.birds.cornell.edu/programs/AllAboutBirds/BirdGuide/Red-tailed_Hawk_dtl.html

another great shot. is this one a sparrow or sharp shinned hawk? and the other a red tailed hawk? we get them on our patio and back yard when food gets scarce in the local fields. they come here for a dinner of the songbirds that we are feeding.
