About This Image

There was a dead rabbit on the dirt road by my house and before long there were 5 Buzzards cleaning up the mess. This big guy had finished it's lunch and was watching the others. It only took them about 20 minutes and the rabbit was gone. They do a great job of keeping the desert clear of the dead critters. They are so big it is almost scary getting close to them. For this shot I managed to get around 20 feet from him, I could tell if I got any closer he or she? was going to leave. I don't think he can fit in my birdhouse LOL.. It's amazing how they can glide for hours searching the ground with there also amazing eye site. I cropped this photo way down to get the really close view of that pretty face.

A face only a Mother could love. Great capture, Alan! Good thing you kept moving Alan or this bird might have thought it had desert hanging around. :-)

Hi Bruce and Karen, Thanks very much for dropping by and for your nice comments. Yea Bruce they do seem to have it pretty nice. It is something how they float around and can cover miles with ease. That would be scary Karen, you can't out run them LOL..

Excellent close-up portrait. I know what you mean about their size. I once had two of them coming right at me as they glided low to roost on the roof of a house behind me. It certainly gave me a scare! Lol!

Nice portrait, it reminds me of a guy I once worked with. I'm convinced that these guys are the happiest critters around; they enjoy most of the day lazily soaring around on the thermals, and occasionally get a warm meal for free and share it with family and friends. That's living!!

While I might argue you on the pretty face it is an excellent close up even considering it was cropped, superb detail .
