The Lens Flare is pleased to announce that contests will once again be held on the website.
There will be two contests per month. One will be strictly for photography with limited manipulation (digital or otherwise). Minor color correction, cropping, and other standard post processing will be allowed. The second contest will be for all artwork such as digital art, 3D renders, graphite drawings, paintings, photography, etc.
Contests will be open for entries for approximately 2 weeks, and then the following week will be for voting. The contests will overlap so that there is always at least one contest that is accepting new pictures.
Anybody may enter one image per contest, and may vote on up to 4 images per contest. The only thing that is required is a free account (http://www.thelensflare.com/galleryforum/index.php?act=Reg&CODE=00). People can vote once for each contest whether or not they submit an image.
The winner of each contest will win a Gold Membership (http://www.thelensflare.com/cart) for one year (a $30 value). If the same person wins more than once, their membership is extended out one year from the date they last won.
After 12 months have passed, each winner will be put into a special contest to determine the best picture of the year. The winner of this contest will win a prize valued at around $100. The winner will have a choice, but it may be a subscription to PhotoShop Users, Communication Arts, or 3D World magazine or possibly a gift card for a photography or art store.
The contests are meant to be a fun and challenging way to share pictures of art and photography. To try and facilitate this, I've put together a list of rules that everybody needs to follow.
Each participant must agree to the following rules to enter and/or vote in any of the contests:
The only way TLF can survive and continue to grow is through the support of our member community. The website is developed, managed, and kept running through the efforts of one person on a very limited budget. There is no advertising budget, so all efforts to attract more people must be done without spending any (or very little) money. In spite of this, the website has steadily grown through word of mouth, links from other people's websites, and search engine traffic. It is my hope to one day be able to devote full time hours to the development of this (and my other) websites, but that day will never come without your support.
One of the ways I've marketed the website is by asking people to view my photos and artwork on other websites, but I tend to run out of photos to share after a while. Yet, there are thousands of other photos that are far greater than mine being displayed on the site.
I'd like to show off your images as much as my own.
Because of this, those submitting pictures to a contest must agree to allow The Lens Flare the use of the picture, without royalties, for the sole purpose of marketing The Lens Flare website including (but not limited to) using the picture in advertisements on other websites and ad media.
In doing so, however, you're not giving TLF the permission to sell your artwork or photograph. If such an opportunity arises, The Lens Flare will contact you and work out an agreement that is beneficial for both parties.
