About This Image

August 2nd 2007, Oakland, California. Scene of a murder.

I happened to hear about the breaking news story on the radio as I was in the neigborhood. Stopped by and grabbed some shots with the professional photographers on the scene. For my interests, the photographers and newspeople on the scene became an equally compelling photo subject.

The victim was Chauncey Bailey, a prominent local newspaper writer and editor. He was shot down execution style in broad daylight on a downtown street as he walked to work.

Oakland was rated the 8th most dangerous city in the country.

Despite this fact, Oakland has some wonderful neighborhoods can be a great place to live.

Hi Alandra. The lens certainly looks very large. However, it can't be a 500L because the 500L has three black adjusting bands on the body of the lens. From the picture this lens only has two. It is also not a 400mm lens either. The only one that comes close in design, is the Canon EF 400mm f/4.0 DO IS USM. A clearly distinguishing factor is the 300 2.8 IS has a red ring, whereas the 400 DO has a green ring. When checking out the original photo upon enlargement, the ring (almost invisible here) is definitely red. So the only possiblity is a 300mm 2.8L.

sad situation, and interesting at the same time. Am the same as you, Alex and have been staring at that large white lens : ) - guess it's the last one you mentioned. Had been wondrin' if maybe it's the 500 L.

Of course, I noticed what the man was carrying. In fact he had three lenses: EF 16-35mm L wide angle. EF 70-200mm 2.8 IS L and what I believe is a EF 300 2.8 IS L. Nice collection.

Nice capture and news story to go with it. The photographer has some powerful lenses.
