About This Image

The Huers hut is on the cliffs over looking the bay at Newquay in Cornwall.. The Huer was the lookout man who sat in his hut and watched for the schoal's of Mackeral fish coming close into the bay, to enable the people of the town to get their nets ready to get a good catch. This would then last them the season for food and money. Mackeral was used for all sorts of things in the early years, even to using the fish oil to light the street lamps of Cornwall.
