TY The day of the horse was certainly wonderful and who knows, if the price of fuel keeps rising horses may just make a comeback. Those with gardens would appreciate it, better roses and wonderful vege with horsey leftovers. I too love the old ways :)

I must admit I have never driven horses while ploughing though I have driven up to four in hand in a phaton and single alot in a gig. Mum told me that she and her sister had to help out at ploughing time and that they usually had the ribbons (reins) over their right shoulder and the horses would work to lelelele and ririri, she said it was hard work esp trying to keep the furrows straight. Though I can never ride again (after an accident that kept me paralized for several weeks) I often think I would love to go back to driving but today's traffic and idiots out there on the road puts me off.

What a lovely, nostalgic image! It took me right back to my childhood, and beyond. This was the way my Dad used to plough the fields in his younger days and even I have had a go; it's not as easy as it looks. :)
