About This Image

The dome of Wren's magnificent cathedral is if anything enhanced by the fact that half of the rest of the buiding is invisible behind the scaffolding.

Hi Steve, nice to know someone else knows what I mean about that "feeling" at St Paul's. Have mentioned it several times over the years but nobody else ever seemed to have experienced it. Good for you, for making it to the top.

Thanks Alandra. I was also taken by my Dad when I was about 10, or even younger, to climb up to the top of the Dome. I was doing fine until I got to the balcony just above the curve of the main dome, and I can still recall the panic I felt as I looked at that steep slope curving away from me and getting steeper all the time! But I got myself together and made it to the top in the end - I was very proud of myself!

another beauty, Steve, thanks for sharing. Went with the school to St Pauls, donkeys years ago :) and we were supposed to climb up the curving staircase to the dome, but as it became more and more narrow, I wasn't able to continue, as got vertigo. Still can't cope with that sort of height/staircase even now.
