About This Image

This small beetle was feeding on the flowers of the common milkweed. Scarabaeidae family is the farthest my limited keying ability would take me. Any help in a more detailed name will be appreciated.

Thanks for viewing!!

It is so odd that so many things appear to be what they are not. *g* When I saw the word "scarab", I immediately thought of Ancient Egypt and excavations - all the excitement. And, Lo, here it is an insect - with odd markings on its back - that is from U.S. apparently, as I know what the milkweed is! However it was too late - I already had the scarab in Egypt - among the discoveres of the ancient Pharoahs. *LOL* So much excitement in flowers when one thinks about how their names came about. Wonderful picture!!

Actually, it is a weevil of some kind. Knowing it was on milkweed should help narrow the suspects:-) bugeric@webtv.net
