About This Image

A red-banded leafhopper on a just-blossoming goldenrod plant. This guy is about 1/4 inch (6mm) long. Hand-held, using the camera's built-in flash and a small aperture for stability and depth of field.

Great shot. The colours and the composition are excellent. The depth of field is so shallow in macro photography that even within the insect's 6mm length, the head is softer than the body, but this doesn't detract from a tremendous capture.
