About This Image

raccoon youngster that was with its mama atop a clematis vine (which covers a tall holly tree) in our backyard today. We were surprised that the raccoons were sleeping in the open during the daytime, and wonder if this has been going on awhile without us noticing :) They were quite high up, - these images were captured from one of our open back windows, and they were higher up than that.

Hi again Lesley, have to correct what I just wrote, - I thought you were commenting on a more recent image. This baby is not the offspring of the blind mother raccoon. This photo was from the previous summer. They all look so much alike that I didn't notice this was an older photo. just wanted to set the record straight :)

Awwwww Alandra, this baby raccoon is such a little poppet. I wish we had them over here in NZ. You have got so many lovely photos of them.

thanks Vince, glad you like it. Maybe he was serious about how high up he was, as he seems to be looking downards towards the ground :)

This is another great shot. That telephoto lens sure comes in handy. Makes you feel like you are up there in the trees with them.

Great shot!! Nice and clear with perfect colors, and really fun to view. I like that cute face, shiny nose, and how the whiskers stand out. Oh and the little hand/paw holding on to the plant is great..

thankyou Orchidea Blue and Lorraine for the nice comments. Am thinking it's about 10 months old, but not sure. I think the mama will be having new babies soon, then they chase the previous year's babies away. She did growl at this one when he went up to her atop the holly tree yesterday, so I assumed this is what was going on, as it must've been her baby, as he found her up there, I watched him clambering up the vines :)

hi Vicki, thanks for the nice comments. They aren't that at ease around me, tho' -- I was quite a distance from them, - they looked towards me when they heard the click of the shutter tho'. They probably realized I was inside the house.

This is incredible - they must feel comfortable around you. You would think the holly would prickle a bit. I love this. Vicki
