About This Image

Pukekos are becoming increasingly common around NZ and in the Waikato. They graze close to farms and waterways. This photo was taken at Innes Common, Hamilton Lake Rotoroa (not Rotorua, which is elsewhere). I was experimenting with aperture settings and focal lengths. This shot was with a full 200mm zoom and 5.6 aperture, giving a very small depth of field as you'll see by the rapidly blurring background.

I love this photo Deb. Well done, you have done well to get this great photo. Sad to think that these gorgeous birds were once eaten. My Bonus Dad (Step Dad) has an old Maori cookbook with recipes in it for some interesting sounding stews. Glad that they are a protected species now.
