Scanned and enhanced from "Origin and Evolution of Transportation" by Marshall M. Kirkman, Copyright 1903. There are so many illustrations and pictures from old sources that are being lost due to the poor condition of the media. I would encourage us all to scan and enhance some of the better images. (Usually after 100 years, there will be no copyright problems!)

This appears to be a pen and ink black and white image. The original artist was given no other credit than being an "Oriental friend" of the author. The scan was good enough to be made into an 8 X 10 photograph for my living room, using HP #100 Photo Gray Print cartridge.

Good point on the copyright issues, and lovely picture. Was this a painting, pencil drawing, or something else?
