About This Image

Out for one of our walks, my sister and I discovered a fern with new, uncurling fronds. We just couldn't resist snapping a photo of this beauty.

Tania, this is a large fern frond. No need for the macro setting here. I'm glad you like it.

Lulu this is fantastic. I love the blue sky in the background. It brings out the many shades of brown, green and reds in the frong. Is this a large frong (it looks like it) or did you use macro on your camera. Very clear Well done Love it

This is a frond from a NZ Ponga. They are actually quite large so this was taken while I was standing. Thanks Mary and also Alandra for you comments. Yes, I too have heard of ferns that can be eaten.

great macro, Lulu, of the fern frond. really detailed! Really neat how they grow like that. we, here in the "Rainforest region" of the Pacific coast of Canada, also have a lot of ferns. Believe there's a type of fern in parts of Canada that is edible when they are in that curled stage, called Fiddlehead Greens. We did have them once, can't recall now what we thought of them.

Unique shot of the frond. Did you lay on the ground to get the shot??
