This is a Monarch butterfly chrysalis, with the butterfly nearly ready to emerge. The chrysalis turns from green to black (actually it gets transparent) over the last few hours of the butterfly's development. It emerged about a half hour after the photo was taken.

I am totally in awe here. Ive never seen a chrysalis in this stage. The wings are so clear inside it. Absolutely beautiful. Vicki

Alfresco I love the clarity of this photo. I have tried to get a clear photo of a chrysalis with no real luck. Well done I love it
