glad you like it, Steve. Thankyou for the nice comments. I did capture 3 or so earlier images when it first took off, but guess I didn't wait for the auto focus as they were a bit blurry, was so excited as it was all happening :)

thanks Mary. In my version, the feet detail is very good when I zoom in on them. Can see the claws clearly :) and I didn't realize the foot "pads" are as fleshy, never having seen the underside of herons' feet before LOL. He's just locked his feet togther here, it's cool how they do that when flying, to keep their legs/feet together
