Thanks for comments. I can see why you would think that Steve but you can't actually see the mine from the town or anywhere around. Its had the positive effect of making what was a depressed area, into a booming economy.

The size is certainly impressive in one way, but I can't help feeling that this open cast mine must be a monumental blot on the landscape. However, that doesn't detract from your photograph, which is very well taken. I especially like the diverse lighting, from the almost black of the left hand edge to the beautiful golden sunlight of the centre right of the frame.

John we went to another mine in Waihi. Not as colourful as this one. the size of the people next to the machinery gives a good idea of the sheer size of the place
