About This Image

This is a Comma butterfly (Polygonia Comma), AKA Common Anglewing, found while hiking in a local park near Scottsville, NY. Winter stayed late in the area, butterflies are just beginning to appear in mid-april, a week or two later than usual.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. This was shot in full sunlight, and was so intense out of the camera that I had to tone the color saturation down a little to keep it from looking "fake". The vignetting and the frame were used partly to hide a very busy background, and partly just fooling around with the editing program. This was the first comma butterfly I've ever found, and it was nice enough to pose for me for several shots before flying off. Bruce

A beautiful close-up image. The wing color is really accentuated against the neutral background. Lovely composition.

This is a lovely, clear close-up of the Comma. It's colours and shape are really beautiful. :)
