But I know this kind of turtle, called Trionychidae. Wish some pleasure with google, there you will find more informations.

Golda - I know you have none of these in Vancouver! This was a big girl (I think we sexed her) and would have 1) been run over on the bad curve we have by the creek down the road or 2) picked up, killed and eaten. I've heard they are good. I wouldn't hurt one, not even for food - although they can bite, they are toothless, but have a hard plates to do the job. The whole turtle is soft; rubbery. This one weighed about 20 pounds. I think they are very prehistoric looking.
