About This Image

Using a cast net is common in Louisiana and Lake Pontchartrain. Mom said they used to sell buckets of clams on Thursdays to use to bait an area so that you can catch shrimp with the nets. Clams along the bottom of Lake Pontchartrain are edible but are not eaten like elsewhere. Maybe we have too much other good food to eat.

Casting a net is a skill. In this picture, the skill is being taught by one man to another. I used to be able to do this and catch an occasional fish for dinner. If the back ever gets better, then I might be able to do it again. Who knows?

Casting For Shrilmp

My grandfather would go to one of the breweries and get some of the left overs from brewing the beer and throw some in the water and wait for the shrimp to appear. He would often go home with an ice chest of shrimp.

Somehow my response did not make it. Thanks for the comment. The seated person was learning how to throw. I do not teach like that. I have the other person's hand in mine as we throw together. It looks strange but the person learns better.

Lovely colors in the sunset. I enjoy seeing the figure of the seated person watching, too. Very nicely done!

Thanks!! That sunset is seen in a few of my other pictures. I love these groups. I got a compliment from as far away as Cairo, Egypt. I bet I will see some great sites when I visit your gallery. Are you listed as Sherine?

This is beautiful. The sky reflected in the water and the mid-air net make a really nice photo.

Thanks. No, he didn't maybe he should have baited the area with clams first. I know that he did show the other man how to cast a net. That may be even better then actually catching something.

That is a great pic, Dud. Great action and sunset at same time. Did he catch anything?

Thanks for the comments!! I asked the man if he minded me taking a picture of him. He said he did not mind but to let him know when I was ready. I said ready.
