About This Image

Band Tailed Pigeon (type of Dove) on a wire high above our front patio shrubs. I held one of these onetime, that had been stunned after hitting our window. Lovely bird. this was taken from inside house, at open front window, arms propped on windowsill. Thought these are Protected in this province, but they are hunted in some parts of the USA, according to what I read online. At one time there was a flock of these each winter here, but since the acorn tree property has been built upon, there are fewer of these here. Just see 2 this winter. Very timid birds, due to having been hunted.

thanks again, Mary. He's actually sitting on a thick wire of some type, strung on poles beside the houses. Have heard pigeons have wonderful eyesight, and that they use them in rescue aircraft, for water rescues, training them to spot dinghies with survivors from plane crashes etc(from inside the rescue planes). The pigeons can spot the orange dinghies long before human eyes see them. This one was definitely watching me at the window.

Hi Janice, yes, he was watching me at the window and would not fly down from there until I closed the windows and pulled the venetian blind back down : ) then he came down and walked around in the upper border and went and had one drink in the little stream.
