Yes it has a subtle scent,sad to hear that the rose gave the blackspot to the waterlilies,would make it a bit difficult to spray if the waterlilies are close,maybe cover the lilies to spray just the climber,planting garlic close to roses is meant to be a good companion.

what a pretty colour! does it have a nice scent also? looks like one of those David Austin type "old fashioned" roses that have a lovely fragrance. Ours always seem to get "black spot", (don't take enough care of them) -- DH just moved that big climbing one of ours today, -well, he cut it all down several weeks ago, but left the lower part in the ground til now. It got covered with black aphids this summer, which got onto the waterlilies below, so we had to cut it back.
