About This Image

Who would have thought that in 6 short decades the dream of flight would evolve from the Wright Brother's 1903 Flyer to Man's first Moon landing.

The wright Brothers' Memorial at kitty Hawk is a terrific experience - the replica can be used to demonstrate how the Brothers' designed their first craft to shift and turn using body motions - the first experiments were never more than 10 feet above ground so the inevitable fall at the end wouldn't hurt so much!

The "fates" were with me on this one. My ISO was set at 400, F +1, no tripod, and I had my camera set for motion - all auto this time. I'm not quite sure how I nailed it with one shot - I did use DIS Pro 10 to adjust the lighting slightly and removed the yellow retaining rope that ran across the Flyer. The "dome" material that this replica is housed in, plus the lighting, may have helped with the shot too. (Oh - and I did have my circular polarizing lens filter attached.)

Hi...this is a nice indoor shot. I was wondering...did you use a tripod? And what was the photo data? Thanks

Thank you Carol. I enjoy learning about the places I visit, and realized how uninformed I was over the whole Wright Brothers' experience. It's an intriguing history.
