European Starling

European Starling

Another bird I don't know. "Up-date, it's a European Starling" These birds are super paranoid and have the eyes and ears of a Eagle. Any slow movement inside the house they see and fly away. They seem to gather in packs and when they show up they take over the birdbath. I lucked out getting this photo. I had my zoom maxed at 300mm and was taking it from a bedroom window around 30 feet away. I took three shots when it busted me, and it was gone.

Thanks Don for helping with identifying this bird for me. :-) It is something that they are everywhere right now. I'm putting up a sign (No Starling Gangs Allowed)...

Your image shows nice coloring in the starling - but to me they are a pest as they take over our bird feeders

Thanks very much for the info on this bird Don.. I will be updating the name soon. I did notice they were in gangs and would take over the birdbath. I've tried to get a shot of the whole gang taking a bath but one of them always spots me. Hi Carol and Cindy Thanks for your nice comments, I also like the way they have different colors that really shine in the sun. And Thanks Alex I'm glad you liked my photo. I don't know about the city birds part, I live in the desert and no pavement or traffic light to be seen. We do though have stop signs. Woo Hoo....

Cool shot Alan! It is a European Starling. We have lots of them in my area here in Ohio, mostly a city bird. Considered a nuisance by many, they flock together in large groups and are agressive to native birds. Usless Grrumpy like info: 100 birds were liberated in Central Park, NY City, in 1890. Since then they have spread over most of the continent. Their beaks turn yellow in the summer but is dark like in your shot, in the fall and winter. Don
