Tipsy Waterwheel

Tipsy Waterwheel

This charming Waterwheel sits on a tiny island close to Mike's daughter. The road that passes it is always busy so I was tickled to finally be able to get a few decent images of it. Since I first saw it two years ago the island has been slowly disappearing and the little structure's angle is looking rather perilous now!

Hullo, my friend. I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's a difficult shot to get, on a busy road. Hopefully the owners may have tried to shore up the island a bit - I won't know til next year. Vicki

another one I've only just found, Vicki, and am glad to have spotted it. It's very appealing. Hope the little structure can be saved.

Hi again, Steve. Do you ever sleep? This is primarily ornamental. Originally the island was higher and a water pump controlled the wheel to help keep the pond water aerated. Now that it's sinking the wheel is not turning - unless the pump was turned off during the winter months. We still had snow and freezing temperatures just last week. (I should also confess that the house sits where the sky is in this version. It was a distraction, so I removed it and altered the skyline with another image!!!) Vicki

Nice shot, Vicki! The other odd thing is that the water doesn't look as if it's flowing fast enough to turn a water wheel - so has this always been simply ornamental, I wonder?

Hi Lorraine and Mary. I sure hope the owners figure out a way to shore it up. Virginia soil has a lot of clay which isn't terribly solid. Mike's daughter's drieway is a great example - when we leave on Saturday we have to be very careful how we pull out onto the road as the recent rain and winds have created monster potholes. The island in this photo may also be the result of elemental undermining. Still, it's picturesque - even if it is a bit akilter! Vicki

A fun and delightful image. Maybe you and Mike with some help can do a rescue?? :)

It would be a shame to see it go into the lake, I think it might be holding by quite a bit of good luck than anything else. lovely capture.
