Washington Monument D.C.

It's Cherry Blossom time in our nation's capitol. In 1912, Japan presented the United States with over 3,000 cherry trees. They have thrived and every year the US honors the gift with a huge festival. The Washinton Monument looms high above all the festivities. Unfortunately the crowds were so extensive that I was unable to get a ticket to go up before they closed yesterday. It was my first visit to Washington D.C.

Nicely composed to capture the springtime sights. Lovely color.

Thank you for your varied comments, Beverly, Mary and Marsha. I nabbed several of the monument, Marsha - it's a challenge to see how close you can get and shoot the whole thing - but I wanted to give TLF a slightly different viewpoint and the cherry blossoms will only be like this for another day or so - if that cold front comes in as expected. Weather permitting, we'll go back on Saturday when the traffic is lighter and take the train to the Smithsonian exit again, then take a tour bus we can jump off and on between stops. Vicki

Beautiful composition. I love the way you captured the cherry trees in front of the monument. Most photos I have seen of the monument are just of the monument. This is a much more pleasing composition. I have only been to Washington D.C. once, and unfortunately it was mid winter and freezing, and a short visit without enough time to see all the sights.

Beautiful composition Vicki. The sky is a gorgeous backdrop for the monument and cherry blossoms.
