Sentinel Rock

Sentinel Rock

Sentinel Rock is within a region of Mount Diablo State Park called Rock City. (Obviously a rocky section of the park). Sentinel Rock formed out of sandstone and juts out the surrounding landscape to offer a good vista of the area. There is another, more well known, Sentinel Rock located in Yosemite Valley. (So don't confuse the two).

Mount Diablo is located in Northern California, about 25 miles from San Francisco. It is 3849 feet in height, and offers great views of the entire Bay area and San Joaquin valley.

Speaking of fear of heights and that rock, shortly after taking this picture, I went over to it and climbed to the top. While I was up there, I dropped my lens cap and it rolled into a cleft in the rock, not far from the top, but outside the roped off safety area. I figured my life was worth more than the lens cap, so I chose not to risk it and wrote it off. A few minutes after I came down I saw this guy who had ventured beyond the roped off area and was near my cap. I asked him to retreive it for me, which he did. Now that was one guy who had no fear of heights.

great shot, Alex, and interesting also. Am like Anne, and heights bother me, so could never venture up onto the top of that rock.

Nice shot! We lived in the Bay area for several years. Unfortunately, I didn't know about this rock at the time.

What a sensational pleasure just looking at tall Sentinal Rock. I would probably fall off. The rock draws you to it, so it is excellent picture. But I will stop writing as I am getting dizzy - just looking. Great Shot!!!!
