We had tortoises as kids in England. They hibernate all winter and wake up again in spring. we kept ours in a box of straw at the bottom of a cupboard in my brother's (lol)bedroom all winter. Had a scare one spring as a youngster, forgetting the tortoise was in there, heard this rustling from the cupboard, - suddenly realized what it was : ) so brought the tortoise out to the garden, where he gorged on dandelion leaves to make up for the time spent in hibernation all winter.
