Mother Raccoon Relaxing

mother raccoon, this is how I found her, but sleeping, so thought something had happened to her initially, but she's fine. Just tired out from looking after those 3 babies : ) She didn't seem to care if I took photos, - she just turned her head away, and turned around to face the other way : ) - but if she heard me move, she'd check to see where I was

thanks Vicki, glad it brought a smile :) she is comical. She was having a well deserved break from her babies that day. She kept them under a pile of old lumber in the corner of the backyard, and they'd run back there to hide if they saw me.

Another one of your gems I missed, Alandra. This is priceless - just how do you get the critters to pose for you - you must pay them well (in 'goodies')! Thanks for the great email - I'm glad we were on the same wave-length last night. I should have known !!!!

Hi Chester, good to hear from you and thanks for the nice comments, interesting also, to hear about the baby that you found. You should join this group and send some photos in of Rocky. Would love to see them.

Hi Lorraine, - I think she was just cooling her belly off, as it was summertime and quite hot if I recall. Their fur is very thick so they must get hot.- when this happens, they sometimes like to bathe in our lily pond, and knock the fountain over :) I never touch them, as they are wild animals and they do have sharp teeth. Not sure if your grands know this, but racoons like to wash their food before eating it.

Wonderful shot. She looks more like a family pet than a wild animal in that pose.

thanks Stephanie, glad you like it. The babies are really cute. When looking at the pics of the babies yesterday, noticed one of them has blood on it's neck, so hope it's nothing serious. I didn't see that when taking the images as it's kinda dark down there under the trees. that's the problem, with the babies, you worry about them, as sometimes they get killed by vehicles on the road behind us.

How cute she is!!! Bet her babies are cute too! Your yard is like a wildlife refuge!

many thanks, Alex, Carol and Doug, - it is comical, glad you got a smile also : ) I have seen them do this before over the years, but never had the camera at hand, or else it was too dark down in the trees there. but lucked out that time.

thanks Karen, glad you got a smile from it also : ) They've been coming here for generations, - we've been here 20 years, - this evening another one appeared at the same time this one was still dozing, - wasn't sure if there'd be growling etc. but the dozing one didn't pay much attention, so the other one might be a sister or some relative. Turned out she also had 2 babies who were up a tree close by. I hadn't seen that the other one had babies til this evening, wasn't sure if it was male or female before. The other one has a crooked tail and not such damaged ears as this one, which is the only way I can tell them apart. Tried to get some pics of the babies of the other one, but it was a bit darker by then so think they haven't turned out too well.

lol, thanks Mary. Was just thinking how comical it is myself, then saw your comment, lol. Was thinking it looks like she's sunbathing, and it would be funny to add special effects like a glass of cold drink in her paw, and a bikini etc.

Well, this just proves how comfortable she feels in your yard. I have never seen a raccoon pose like this!! Funny and cute.
