Growing Under Pressure

A wild desert gourd growing in a fence. These plants are everywhere here in Arizona. I don't think they are very tasty because I have never seen any critters eating them or any of them that were broken open.

When they dry out they turn into a light brown color and all the seeds inside become loose after shaking them a few times. I have made some I think what is called maracas out of a few of them. I made some handles attached them to the gourd and painted them. When you shake them you can hear the seeds rattling around inside. Up-Date, today Jan 23rd 2008 I saw some chipmunks eating the seeds from some broken open gourds.
