Reunited at Last

This has been a year of major firsts for me. This photo , taken by Mike Sept 12, is really special.

Not only was I adopted at birth, almost 59 years ago, but also found myself in the same situation 37 years ago when I was forced to give up my first daughter.

Lisa found me through Reunion.com just after my birthday last year. We haven't met in person yet, but our calls and emails are precious.

She's an amazing, and persistent young lady. While searching for her Dad who I knew would want to meet her (they have since met in a positive way), she dug further and found MY birth mother too.

We finally hugged the day after Labor Day a few weeks ago and spent a wonderful afternoon together. This week I get to meet one of my half brothers here in Florida.

For me, 2005 has been an incredible year.

I just wanted to share this with all my great online frends at The Lens Flare.

Thank you for the feedback, Alandra and May. You both make good points that it's vital to be open-minded when such a reunion occurs. No one knows just what the outcome will be - it was over 58 years for my mother and me.

Three days ago - on Tuesday, I met my half-brother, Charles for the first time. It was so much more than I could ever have imagined. Before we parted company after a wonderful afternoon together - and a zillion mutual hugs - he said "This is so odd - even though Mother never told us about you I feel as if a huge hole has filled up - and I never knew what caused it before now!" Unfortunately, Mike's photos didn't turn out, but all Charles' co-workers were snapping their cameras every-which-way. It was an incredibly positive meeting.

Congratulations. I'm so happy for you and your family. I have one child - an adopted son - who did meet his birth mother. Sadly, or perhaps not, the bonds weren't there, though he does keep in touch from time to time with his half siblings.

coincidentally, this is what happened with my relative too, - when the daughter's mother died, she started the search for her birth mother. sadly in our case, it hasn't worked out well.

Thank you for the great feedback. We've been fortunate in that our personal connections have been positive. I never resented being adopted - even blood families have their trauma at times - but even through hard times I was glad to be here and that my mother gave me life. Consequently, when faced with similar circumstances, I could not handle the thought of an abortion and the source I approached to relinquish Lisa before her birth was wonderful - she had the life and family they assured me she would have. She dearly loves her adopted family, but after her mother's death a few years ago, the hole to find me grew stronger.

A few days ago I found out my brother wrote her for help in finding his own birth family - which to me is a positive tribute to her tenacity!

I just spoke to my brother, Charles and his wife - we're getting together Tuesday or Wednesday - his wife is really excited. I can't wait!

what great news, Vicki, am so happy for you! It certainly has been a momentous year for you, - talk about exciting!

do understand something of what you have experienced, as have had this in our family also, (another family member finding her daughter that she gave up at birth many years ago).

Congratulations to both of you. There is a definite family resemblence. I was adopted at six from Germany so I doubt I would ever get this opportunity. I can't speak German any more.
