Around the Bend In the Spillway

This was taken in the Bonnet Carre Spillway in Norco, Louisiana. Norco is up the Mississippi River from New Orleans. The spillway allows the River water to divert into Lake Pontchartrain.

In addition to being a water diversion, the spillway is a great recreational area. It is dry, except for lagoons or ditches, most of the

time. When the water is diverted the water saves New Orleans from being inundated but when it is dry it keeps the New Orleans area entertained with wilderness areas, ATV parks, and access to the lake for boats.

It is also a great place for walking which is what Patches and I did there. He was waiting for me to catch up with him and have fun. I was wondering what was around the bend.

My dog Patches was looking for what was around the next bend. Today, the entire Spillway is under water. I am wondering if there will be roads when it becomes dry again. The last time it was used was 10 years ago and then it dried up and some of the roads were wiped out but others remained.

It is a great place to walk!! There is a race held here each year that travels through the wooded areas. The race is almost single file once they get into the woods. I often wondered why they did not travel roads like these. There are miles of them in the spillway.
