Outside My Window

: Outside My Window; With summer here and the temperatures around 105 the birds are hanging around in the evergreen bushes by the open windows of our house. We have a swamp cooler and you open windows for the air to blow out. The birds figured out it's cool there. For this photo I picked up my camera stood up from my computer chair and took the shot through the window screen. Now that's some easy bird hunting :); Equipment:

Hi Christina, Thanks for dropping by.. Check out my replies below on how to make screens and wire fences invisible. Basically stand back a few feet from the screen, use a narrow depth of field F/4.5 - 5.6, and make sure you or the camera focuses on the subject not the screen.

Hi Ann, It really pretty easy to make things disappear like screens or even a chain-link fence. From the camera to the window screen was around 3ft away, then the bird was around 2 1/2 feet away from the window. The trick is to use a fairly small depth of field, and have the screen or fence "around" half the distance between the camera and the subject, then I focus only on the bird using the center only focus setting. It also helps to use most of the zoom on your lens or at least half of it. For this photo I used my 75-300 at the focal length of 240mm and I used Aperture priority set at F/5.6 I think as long as your a few feet from your screen you should be able to make it disappear even shooting birds 10 to 20 feet out in your yard. Hope this helps and have fun making things invisible. :)

Hi Ann, with taking this through the window screen it made like a cross screen filter effect on the sparkle in it's eye. You have to look at the large image to see it.
