oliver Cromwell death mask taken a few minuets after he died..

Oliver Cromwell was born in Huntington on April 25th, 1599. He died on September 3rd in London.

When Charles II was restored to the throne in 1660, some of his supporters had Cromwell's body dug up and hanged(!) from a gallows as a traitor. His remains were later buried at the foot of the gibbet ain't we just a lovely lot lol.. that all info for this

Excellent shot of the King of the Roundheads, Mike. His men were responsible for some major damage to the Sydenham estate in Devon, where I was at boarding school. Many Americans aren't aware that he uprooted the Monarchy for awhile. This is and excellent death mask. Great capture.

A marvellously macabre shot Mike! Death masks are spooky, but they give a real sense of immediacy. Great image.
