Night Flowers/We Are Given Memories - - (January's Flowers)

We Are Given Memories - - So That We May Have Flowers in "Winter". Captured on a winter night in January.

In Loving Memory of John Alexander McLean, who died aged 32 years, on 25 January many years ago. My first dear Husband, Daddy to Fiona and Julie-Faye. Biological Grandpa to Shane, Kevin and Jessica, the "grands" he never knew in this life.

Also John was a much Loved Brother to Shirlee, Don and Garry, and Beloved Son as well.

And also wish to honour my dear Husband in this life now, who has been a great Dad to my girls and caring Gramps to our "grands". Forever Loved.

(PS, these flowers are blooming in January on our front doorstep, where they have survived all winter so far).

thank YOU, Don, Brother, am so glad that you found the image and tribute to your much loved Brother. And your kind & caring words mean so much to me, as did Shirlee's. It's easy to understand why or how you would feel that way, after such traumatic losses when you were so young. A person hardly knows how to cope with such a tragedy. You acted the way John would have done, - he told me once that a person would have to "forget"! When I queried this in something akin to amazement at the time, - he said "well, not forget forget",-guess he meant not to dwell on the loss. There were a few things like that that he talked about, as if "he knew" he wasn't going to be around much longer.

Thanks Alandra for the lovely tribute to my brother. I think it finally hit me that because of all my family tragedy when I was young, I spent my life trying to forget. Perhaps it is time to learn how to remember. Your pictures are wonderful, you seem to have the ability to capture those special moments in time that leave an imprint in our soul. Cheers, Don

This is beautiful in all its aspects, Alandra, but the comments from some of those you honored in your description make it even more special. But lest you forget - we don't get "older" or more "weather-beaten" - we become more creative and better - like a fine wine!!!!

Nice picture. Come move down south and you have flowers year round but then if your memories are not good down south, we call that old age.

wanted to add, when I took this pic late last nite at the front door, on returning from walking the little dog, - had no idea about making this tribute to John.

It was only after deciding on the title and seeing the photo onscreen, that the idea came to me.

I'd taken the camera with me to capture something else on our usual nightly walk, but that didn't turn out the way I'd hoped, so snapped the flowers, as had been meaning to for several days, incase the cold finally gets them.

And this is what evolved.
