Hummingbird whirling wings

Hummingbird whirling wings

taken today from our front window, with my not so great telephoto/optical zoom : )

somehow managed to capture the wing movement in this one. you can see the pattern of the wing movement here, as the wings move in a circular motion, forwards and backwards. We have several hummers visiting our garden this year, - more than we ever recall. - so are really enjoying watching them feed here and chase each other around the patio and back garden. Incredible aerobatic stunts going on

those are lovely comments, David, that's so kind of you, thankyou very much.

This photo is from last year, when my telephoto was certainly much to be desired, - I have since been fortunate to upgrade. Thankyou again dear David.

So many of Alandra's birds and animals as well as her flowers are absolutely exceptional. If as the scoring system requires we were to comment on them all it would be a fulltime pleasure. She is very fortunate to have so many wonderful subjects nearby and her sensitive and acute observation of them, and her composition and technique with what I understand is relatively modest equipment are excellent. Alandra deserves a special award. Please keep on giving us such pleasure.

thanks very much Austin, your kind comment is much appreciated : )

had a great time last summer taking hummer shots on our front patio, for some reason they seemed much more cooperative than previous summers. Hope they are the same this coming summer : )

Excellent photo, they move so quickly before you can snap a shot. Very enjoyable. Thanks. Their the most precious little birds.

thanks for the comments, Websphinx.

this is the best luck I had with the hummers, this summer. Other years, they'd take off as soon as they saw camera : )

Alandra - this is really stunning. Hummers are probably the most difficult to photograph and this is excellent!

Great! Now I understand your interest in hummers. When I lived in Oregon, we had feeders all over the place. Not too many here - just ruby throats.

I'll have to watch my crocosmias.
