Great Blue Heron May 2008

Great Blue Heron, flying from it's nesting site near our home.

Am sure it was watching me, if you view it in the large format, this is even more noticeable. Also note the claws on the heron's feet. They lock their feet together during flight, so that both legs stay together while airborne.

Sorry it's so close to the edge of the frame, but they move so fast that it was almost out of frame when I shot this one :)

Great shot. I noticed how they lock their feet also. And they are fast to get out of the frame.

thanks both of you, Jas and Carol, for the encouraging comments. With the lens at 400mm setting, there isn't much space to capture the herons when they move so fast, so another second and he'd be out of the frame.
