Godshill Village

Godshill is a village street lined with old thatched cottages, roses round the doors, flowery gardens, olde worlde air, this is what thousands of visitors flock to Godshill to see every summer.

The chief glory of Godshill is its church, which is in the background of this image.

According to legend its original builders laid the foundation in a more easily accessible flat site, but every morning the stones were found to have been transferred to the hilltop.

The thatched cottages in this image are clustered around its gates, one of these was once a public house.

I wish I could flock with the visitors to see this beautiful village, with almost another time captured in it. The people have to be of this age, of course. *LOL* but it does seem like another century to me. And I guess it is! *g*

I agree, a lovely scene, Chriss. Have seen it in photos my parents took when they visited the Island years ago, plus featured on several calendars & magazines from the UK. Am quite proud that many of my ancestors were born and raised there :) - which I only found out after getting into Genealogy.
