thanks very much, Anne, for the nice comments, am happy you liked it and glad you found it. The hummer does seem to be admiring itself in the mirror ball.

"Look at that beautiful bird!, this Humming Bird seems to be saying. A true statement. *g* Both bird and reflection are beautiful and create a lovely scene. With added echo of enjoyment. A joy to have captured the image to look at over and over.

thanks for the nice comments, Beverly. What seems odd to me, is that the hummer's reflection in the mirror ball, is sharper than his actual image :) Plus can't help noticing how much shinier the ball is in this capture, compared to some of the images from last summer -- guess the rain recently cleaned the ball of pollen and dust etc

thankyou Alex for the nice comments, and the cool suggestion, - had never thought of that! I don't know the brand name of this gazing ball, as it was bought sometime ago. But it's worth giving some thought to.

thankyou May for the nice comments and info. Can't recall if I was aware of that, re the gazing balls in Victorian times or not. But certainly didn't know about them being in every Italian families' garden. It's great finding out all this info.

Your hummer shots are pretty unique. I think you could probably exchange the rights to use one of your hummer/gazing ball shots with a gazing ball company for a ball(s)of your choice. I would send an email to any online retailer in their "contact us" section with a sample or refer them to a TLF file. Perhaps you would get lucky. More people would purchase gazing balls if they realized it would attract hummers.

Love your hummers. Gazing balls were popular during Victorian/Edwardian times. But when I was growing up in NY, gazing balls were in every Italian garden. You KNEW an Italian family lived in a house that had one.

We were the only ones without :c(

Thanks for all that info about these gazing balls Alandra. I can see now that I will have to go searching and shopping online! I was actually looking at building a feature wall in the garden with a large mirror set in it but imagined the birds crashing into it. I'll let you know how I get on :)

Hi Cindy, thanks for the nice comments. I was also quite fascinated when first hearing of these gazing balls, and longed to have one for our garden, but at the time, it seemed you had to send to the USA for them, - and so that seemed a bit tricky, being that they are made of glass :) - but I did quite a bit of looking online at them and "wishing" :) Finally saw this one for sale locally, about 5 years ago, quite reasonably priced at a Canadian Tire store (a big chain here) - of all places! and have enjoyed it ever since, - and for 2 summers, the hummers have been interested in it also, much to my surprise. They seem to think it's another hummer entering their territory!- and keep flying up to the mirror ball to try to get a look at the "intruder". The gazing ball is not hanging, - it rests on a pedestal. The original pedestal was wrought iron, but we put it on something a bit higher and less wobbly. They are available in different colours, - gold, silver, blue, etc, - but I like the silver best. Did see a nice "combination" one recently of blue and silver, which I'd like to have. (only $29, quite reasonable for the pleasure they give).

Neat capture! I have never heard of a gazing ball! Are they especially for hanging in the garden?
