Birds Nest Fungus

This is Birds Nest Fungus. The "nests" are about 3/8 inch across, and the "eggs" are spore cases. A membrane across the top opens when the spores are ripe, and the next rain splashes the spores out for dispersal. They grow on dead wood or pine needles.
