patio years ago

this is a photo of our front patio area, taken many years ago, before we had our Labs and before the "online addiction" began and arthritis set in : ) and was really into gardening, especially lots of annuals, as can be seen here.

After the arrival of the Labs, we now just plant mainly perennials which seem to survive anything, plus the dogs are older and don't wander into the garden area anymore. But we focus a lot on planter tubs and hanging baskets now anyway.

Hi May, thanks for the nice comments, that's an oldie photo now tho', before the digital camera. Yes, we do have Love In A Mist, it re-seeds itself each year, not blooming yet tho. There are some macro pics of Love In A Mist on my gallery here, taken last year.

How pretty! Do you have love-in-a-mist planted in there? It should do well - one of my favorites from Oregon.

I just got in here to look for a bit and then spied this. It is absolutely wonderful Alandra. My yard looks like a barn yard compared to yours. But then I quess we can't all be good at everything. to start with the soil here is maostly clay and needs amot of attention . Like you I don't have the energy to dig much more these days. And there again, some have one talent and other's have another.

But it would be nice to sit in a place like that for a while.

The gardens on Temple Square in Salt Lake are always so beautiful too. but they have professional gardeners to take care of them, as well as lots of volunteer workers.

Love, Pam

wanted to add, in this shot, you can see the cable "running" across the top of the shrubs here, which is where the Band Tailed Pigeon was perched, when I took the pic recently. And also the upper border which is where most of the other bird shots were taken (not as many flowers at this time of year of course : ) But you can see it's a fair distance from the front window, which is just beyond the path that you can see edge of in R corner, just to the right of the path where the front of the house is.

thanks very much for the nice compliments, Gary, Carol, Vicki, Hazelnut and Janice. This is an old pic, and I used to put a lot more effort and time into caring for the garden then, than I do these days. but it's still very pretty.

Was wondering what your garden-patio really looked like. Really beautiful.

Alandra - THIS is how I envisioned your garden - full of life and great feelings. It must be heartbreaking to let it go a bit. I've left gardens behind that were upsetting to say goodbye to - but none quite as glorious as yours.

Lovely spot. I wish that sometime in my life I had created something like this, but I never have. Like you, I'm too creaky now to do anything like that.

thanks Alex, Dud, Susan, Deb for comments on this one. It's an "oldie". Wanted to mention, the little lilypond in foreground is where the Great Blue Heron landed a few days ago, when the snow was here! He landed first on the wall approx where the red flowers are here, and then into the pond. DH saw the heron but he had gone before I saw him. Saw his footprints in snow on wall, and also saw his wingprints on one of the vehicles parked in driveway.

This looks beatiful. It could be one of the patios in the French Quarter. It could be many of them.
