Lightning Bolt

A thunder shower came through our neighborhood this evening and I tried to catch a lightning shot for the first time and without a tripod.

Since opposites attract, this positive charged lightning bolt is seeking out a negative ground in a split second.

Great shot, Luck is always required when trying to capture such a brief moment but you did it perfectly.

Thanks for the comment Toots,I'm glad you enjoyed it.We don't get many lightning storms in this area so I was lucky to capture this one.

Thanks for the comment Golda,I'm glad you enjoyed it.That lightning bolt was so bright it lit up my whole yard,so the color must have come from it.

Is the purple sky a result of the lightning.Very beautiful,Mother Nature doing some of her best work.Great capture!

Thanks for the comment Brian,Yep,I was going to try the tripod, but the storm was moving pretty fast so I figured I better just shoot if I was to catch one lightning bolt.It took me about 10 tries, but I finally got it.

Wow! You did this handheld? Nice! I've been able to shoot a few lightning bolts, but I did it by using a really long exposure time and a tripod.
