Castillo de San Marcos, St Augustine, Florida, USA

This fort was built between 1672 and 1756. Constructed of 'coquina', blocks made up of a local shell and rock formation(the photo-edge is a macro of the composition), it's durability could withstand cannonball strikes. Many local buildings utilized coquina - the last in the 1920's.
