Gulf Fritillary in Purple Gerardia

The wildflowers are out and the butterflies are migrating. The Fritillaries are flying south, the Monarchs (not many this year) flying west then south to Mexico.

Purple gerardia is a host plant for this species.

Soon, after the butterflies have gone, you will see their caterpillars on this plant. The caterpillars will overwinter.

a delicate and very pretty image, May. And interesting info also, - and I noticed you wrote that not many Monarchs are migrating past there this year. We also noticed very few butterflies in our garden this past summer.
