At an aperture of 1.8, the depth of field is very shallow. Those first few flowers are in focus, but everything else is out of it's depth of field. If you're looking for more of the picture to be in focus, then a smaller aperture (represented by a larger f stop number) is what you'd want to use.

I went for this shallow depth of field on purpose.
