Bull Elk

I was fortunate enough to see this elk in Yellowstone National Park. I rented a telephoto lens so that I'd have the ability to zoom in close to the animals. This guy has one of the largest racks that I've seen in person.

Thanks Art and Alan. Your comments are appreciated. Good idea on framing him off center a bit. Unfortunately, that's the full frame (no cropping) so I can't fix it. I may have another shot of him that's better framed though.

When I framed it, I intended for the grass to be about 1/3, the elk's body to own the middle 1/3, and the trees the last 1/3.

C&C, Beautiful shot and fun to look at that large rack. This one seems a little on the dark side. I think giving him a little more room to look into and above his antlers would be better. Adding some more above him would take him out of being dead center in the shot.

C&C, It's a great image. Just the majesty of the animal alone is picturesque and you did a great job of capturing him.

It was really worth you renting that lens Brian! What a beautiful beast to be able to capture and with such clarity too. I'd just love to see one of these, in the wild, one day. :)

This bull elk is different from the other one that I uploaded. He was on the other side of a small pond, where the other one was on the side of a road. This guy's rack is a lot bigger than the other one as well. We were quite fortunate to see two nice sized bulls in the same day.

Beautiful photo Brian... That lens sure makes it feel like your standing right next to him. I especially like the lighting on his antlers along with the dark background, it really makes them stand out.

I just read on Yahoo news that Yellowstone has had hundreds of small earthquakes lately and there worried about the very large volcano there.
